There are hundreds of different air plants, which are a type of epiphyte, that grow on top of other plants (typically trees) co-existing in a harmonious and harmless way. When growing in their natural environment, they derive vital nutrients from the air, sun, and water around them, gaining their name as Air Plant. What look like roots on an air plant are not used for nutrients, but to anchor themselves to a tree or plant, so they don’t require soil.
