Rattlesnake plant, or Calathea lancifolia has long, beautifully marked leaves with wavy edges and reddish-purple undersides. Native to Brazil’s tropical climate, they prefer a humid, warm space with bright light. These plant grow best in medium to bright indirect light, with no direct sunlight, as it will likely burn the leaves. The soil should be kept regularly moist (but not wet), cutting back watering a bit in the winter, just so that the top layer is dry to touch. They grow best in a well-draining potting soil and can be re-potted as they become root bound, moving it to a size 1-2″ above its current pot. These plants thrive in humidity and can grow up to 30″ tall.
